The Flag Day ceremony is on Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m. and will now be held at the Maynard-Clinton Elks Lodge, 34 Powder Mill Rd, in Maynard.
Maynard Fire Department will be receiving a flag retirement box constructed by Maynard Boy Scout Troop 130.
Troop 130, in collaboration with the Maynard-Clinton Elks Lodge, will hold an official flag retirement ceremony on June 14, Flag Day.
The ceremony will include the unveiling of the box and the retirement of a flag by Elks members.
The flag retirement box will be held at the Maynard Fire Station and is open to the public year-round. The box will be used to collect old flags that are deemed ready for retirement.
The box was built and designed by Maynard Troop 130 as part of an Eagle Scout project. Maynard resident and member of Troop 130, Colt Jackson, a junior at Assabet Valley Regional Vocational and Technical High School, currently studying HVAC/R, led the project.
Other Troop 130 members who worked on the project include Francis Kilroy, John Berghaus, Will Cramer, Emma Nevilles, Cal Mathison, Wesley Teague, Ronan Rafter, and Pierce Rafter.
The project took over a year to complete.
Jackson also will hand out 24 flags in exchange for old or worn flags. Flags will be first come, first served.
